Wahay , thanks to the power of the interweb and the Alex’s benevolence at the Chch chapter meeting I actually saw this clip.

<< Insert 2 cents ( rounded to ten cents )here >>

: If this other Doctor is an 'imposter', why is he putting on such a
: elaborate (and factually accurate) act for the benefit what is, in
: his eyes, a clueless bystander?

I think they’re all actors ( including the cyberhead ), performing the little known 19th century play “The Next Doctor”
A week before this scene The Doctor appeared and saved the town from Cybermen.
We simply saw 3 people turning these events in to a play.
They’ve already seen what happened so they have the characters, catch-phrases, Phillips screwdriver and a plot.

: neither Rosita or the David Morrissey Doctor seem to have the
: slightest inkling of who Tennant's Doctor is.

2 theories about this.
1) They didn’t recognise The Doctor because they are the actors not the writer and never saw The Doctor.
This would allow the set-up for The Doctor to have to watch the play to find out he has to go back in time a week and start off this chain of events in the first place.
Nice and basic time travel story. ( At a stretch maybe even a Hamlet nod with a play within a play ? ) and can splice the play version with real-time during the show, especially the special effects bits.
……..or…….
2) The Doctor that was there a week ago was actually the next incarnation and looked different.
This would up a story arc where in each of the next series episodes this Doctor is one step behind his future incarnation.
He finds clues from his future self fating himself towards his next regeneration.

The only question would be how/why does this Doctor fight cybermen to make an exciting Christmas ep. if the previous/new Doctor already beat them ?

The future Doctor knows that in a previous incarnation he turned up on Christmas Eve and had to fight the Cybermen, so he leaves one Cyberhead with a circuit still intact so that all the timey-wimey things stay wibbly-wobbly.

Great fodder for a Chrissy Panto style ( the play could include shoddy effects “That back wall’s a bit wobbly, no-one’ll ever believe that”, “Argh death by blue light” ) hammed up against a more serious current action adventure.

Alex will probably upbraid me at the next Chapter meeting for it this idea not being stanislovakian (sp? ) enough !
